Terre de Haut Hotels

Terre de Haut description:
Terre de Haut Hotels are located on a cluster of eight islands off the southern coast of Guadeloupe, the Iles des Saintes are said to be certainly off the beaten track. The two main islands and six rocks are Terre-de-Haut, Terre-de-Bas, Ilet-à-Cabrit, La Coche, Les Augustins, Grand Ilet, Le Redonde, and Le Pâté. Only Terre-de-Haut ("land of high") and, to a lesser extent, Terre-de-Bas ("land below") attract visitors.
Terre-de-Haut is said to be the most interesting, and the only island with overnight accommodations such as the Terre de Haut Hotels.

Some have said that Les Saintes has one of the nicest bays in the world, these bays are said to be very enjoyable to go scuba diving in or just to sit and relax on. Visitors apparantly say many activities can be enjoyed when staying at the Terre de Haut Hotels.

Terre de Haut History:
The history of Iles des Saintes is very much the history of Guadeloupe itself. In years past, the islands have been heavily fortified, as they were Guadeloupe's Gibraltar. The isles, just 6 miles from the main island, were visited by Columbus on November 4, 1493, who named them "Los Santos". The climate was very dry, and until the desalination plant opened, water was often rationed.

Terre de Haut Population:
The population of Terre-de-Haut is mainly Caucasian, it is said that all fisherfolk or sailors and their families are descended from Breton corsairs. The large boats called saintois are manuevered by Sailors that visitors claim are very skilled.

Terre de Haut Accommodation:
The Terre de Haut hotels are said to be a place for nature lovers, many of whom claim to stake out their exhibitionistic space on the nude beach at Anse Crawen.

Some visitors over for the day say they like to go scuba diving at one of many beaches that are said to be walking distance from the Terre de Haut Hotels. It is said to be possible to rent gear that will direct you to the dozen or so top dive sites around the island.
